The city centre is relatively compact for a capital city making it reasonably easy to get around by foot and by bus. The medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town are UNESCO World Heritage sites. At the heart of the medieval old town, perched high on castle rock (an extinct volcano) is Edinburgh castle.
