A mere 45 minutes from Glasgow is the area of Ayrshire. Although perhaps not as visually stunning as areas such as the Scottish Highlands and Islands, there are still plenty of reasons to visit Ayrshire.

For those with an interest in poetry, Burns National Heritage park is in Ayrshire.

 

There are also plenty of picturesque little towns such as Ayr and Largs but also Scottish castles such as Culzean Castle to visit.

The Isle of Arran which is reached by ferry has a number of attractions.  It has its own castle and even has its own brewery.
